NUTRITION WEEK!

Dear Parents,

We introduced our unit on Nutrition by learning about the

Five Food Groups (fruit, vegetable, grain, protein, and dairy group).  We read several books about nutrition:  One of our favorites was, I Eat a Rainbow, by Bobbie Kalman.  We then worked together to create our own classroom rainbow by cutting out pictures of fruits and vegetable from magazines and then gluing them onto a large rainbow shape.

The Children each made a "Healthy Plate" place mat which included one picture from each food group such as: raspberries, from the fruit group, bread from the grain group, asparagus from the vegetable group, steak from the protein group, and finally a picture of a child drinking a glass a milk from the dairy group.

On Friday, we began our Food Group Booklets by making a cover which included pictures from all of the five food groups.

Notes from Yuting:

This week we used finger puppets to practice greetings. After the color of yellow was introduced, we read "Little Blue And Little Yellow" by Leo Lionni. Little Blue "Xiǎo Lán" and Little Yellow "Xiǎo Huáng" are two best friends, and when they hug, they become green. Through this wonderful story of friendship, differences and acceptance, we reviewed the many colors!

Other areas of interest in our classroom:

Next week we look forward to beginning our page on the dairy group.  The children will also practice "milking a cow."

We also look forward to seeing you on Friday, May 12th at our Mother's Day Celebration.

Please sign up for  The Parent Teacher Conferences if you have not done so already.

Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Barbara
