WHO IS THE TALLEST PERSON IN YOUR FAMILY?

Dear Parents,

We had another great week in class.  We took a little break from our art reproductions and created  wooden sculptures.  The children were given two eyes, glue, a choice of wooden pieces, and were told to create something. The results were phenomenal!

                    

In math, we counted, compared, and contrasted "Who is the Tallest Person in Your Family? "(represented by Unifix Cubes).

I guess it was unanimous that the Daddy was the tallest person

in everyone's family.

Hooray!  We have finally finished learning all the alphabet letters and their sounds.  Some of the words we came up with beginning with "Z" were: zoo, zipper, zebra, and zig zag.  We ended our week by decorating alphabet letter cookies.

Finally, the art show is here!  The children worked so hard preparing for  the show.  They painted sunflowers, created sculptures, made  rainbows, painted  sailboats (inspired by Fisk Hugh Lane), and created Van Gogh's bedroom.  It was truly a success!  We want to extend a special thank you to everyone who contributed to making the art show a successful one, such as the Willow Flute Ensemble, Lisa for the violin demo, and of course all of our parents.

We read to the children some stories explaining about the holiday of Passover.  Hooray! It's Passover,  by Leslie Kimmelman  and  The Matzah Man A Passover Story,  by Naomi Howland.  Then we made our own matzah men/women.  

                              

We made fried matzah (matzah brie) with the the children.  It is a traditional food eaten at Passover.  The children each had a turn cracking an egg and and stirring it into the softened matzah. The children all loved eating it.  Mmmm, was it good!

Notes from Yuting:

This week we read "From Head to Toe" by Eric Carle. On every page is a different animal moving a different body part. Each time the children imitated an animal's movement, they proudly said "wǒ hui!" (I can do it!) 

We then sang "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" as we learned the Chinese names of our body parts.
