We started our Thanksgiving Unit this week by reading Celebrating Thanksgiving, by Joel Kuperstein and The First Thanksgiving, by Garnet Jackson. We had a class discussion about what we are thankful for. Here is what the children said:
"I am thankful for:"
Helene - Ice cream
Siddharth - Mommy
Izzie - Candy
Giselle - When my house is built
Cyrus - trucks and trains
Luisa - Mommy, Daddy, and my sister
Justin - My toys
Conrad - My houseboat
Antonio - Books
Ava - My mom
Devika - Mommy and Daddy
Gaurav - My new house
Emma - My big sister Ann
Caroline - Mommy and Dad
We cut turkey shaped feathers and then traced what we are thankful for onto our feathers.
We celebrated Giselle's 4th birthday. Thank you to her family for the delicious cupcake cake.
Happy Birthday Giselle!
Notes from Yuting:
This week in Mandarin we reviewed the colors of red, blue, orange, green and yellow. We found toys that matched these colors and put them on the colored construction paper. We also watched a short video that showed us how to count from 1 to 10 in Mandarin.
At the end we got together and sang " Where Are My Hands" and " If You Are Happy And You Know It" in Mandarin.
This week in music class with Lisa the children are learning to put the violin in rest position while standing on their foot chart. We have also been practicing some songs for the Thanksgiving concert such as "Over the River and Through the Woods."
We also celebrated Justin's 4th Birthday. Thank you to his parents for the delicious treats.
Happy Birthday Justin!
We ended our week by baking sweet honey corn bread for our Thanksgiving Feast. The recipe is in your child's cubby.
Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Barbara
